I’m not one for labels…

…but I guess I have to be now. Some of the joy of a good bottle of beer comes from its presentation. When was the last time you were looking through the beers at your local supermarket and thought “Hmmm, the label is terrible on this beer, maybe I’ll try it”? I can think of a few that I – stupidly – have been put off buying based on the label. Even more stupid is the fact that I already know I like the beer!

Take Keltek King. A lovely beer, one of my favourites.

…and the new one.

Now honestly, which would you be more likely to buy? It’s very shallow of me, and every other consumer, but it’s what happens.

So with that in mind, I’m thinking of doing some labels for my own brews. Live by the sword, die by the sword, so I’d better come up with some good designs! Luckily I have a graphic designer friend who has offered to do some work in exchange for beer (the universal currency), but in the meantime I’ll have a go too, as I just can’t resist it.

I had a go last night at making something for my Citra beer, something reasonably witty and something that would appeal to me. This is what I came up with:

Not the greatest, but not too bad in my humble opinion. I’ll print a few to see what they look like on the bottle 🙂
