"Without Further Ado… It’s Time To Start, RUNNING!"

A classic line from The Running Man, and nearly completely true in my own case too. I’m keen to get started now, gradually increasing my distances and decreasing my times (and the shade of purple I’ll no doubt be turning). Where better to document and journal my progress than right here, with you good folk?

The hardest part at the start will be setting realistic goals for myself, both long-term and short-term so that I don’t get bored or unmotivated. Maybe if I treat it all as a big game it’ll connect more with me.

I think there’ll be a section, maybe a static page on here to update with things like my best times for 1 mile, 2 miles, 5 miles etc as I start, so that I have something to aim for each time. Who know how it’ll turn out, I’m brimming with ideas! I had thought of a decent pedometer and having a running (sic) total of the number of miles I’d completed for the year – I quite like that one actually, that may have to stay.

In a way I’m dreading it; I’m a terrible runner and don’t enjoy it at all. But I think the two are probably linked, and once I get a decent mp3 player so I can’t hear myself gasping for air, I’m sure I’ll be well away :).

  1. Music makes everything easier. I think I’m going to borrow my husband’s MP3 for the hospital.
