Tempus Fugit

I really can’t believe how quickly this year, and the last few months in particular, have gone, and now Christmas has appeared from nowhere like some kind of tinsel-covered ninja! I’m in two minds as to whether this is a good thing or not though. Obviously it’s nice to get to the holiday as quickly as possible, and for working weeks to speed by unnoticed, but I really miss the build-up and anticipation I felt when I was young. As adults we spend so much time hurrying around, worrying about money and working that we aren’t able to just relax, and then get excited about the happiest time of the year (for me at least).

I was looking through some old photos yesterday, only from the beginning of the year, but in some ways it feels like an absolute age ago.

That was taken in January at a competition. I don’t really feel like I’ve come far from then, but thinking about it I’m several stones lighter and another three grades higher. So in those terms it’s absolutely flown.

We’ll be competing again in February I believe, I’m really looking forward to it now. I always get nervous beforehand, but I know how much I enjoy it at the time. The only question remaining is where we’re going to go afterwards for the traditional post-competition meal, now that the Little Chef is gone! 🙁

There’s at least one person I know who’ll be hoping for some time to fly by right now, fellow blogger BBM goes in (with any luck) for an ACL reconstruction today, and at the same time practically writes off the chance to grade to Shodan in February. ‘Crap’ I think is appropriate. Best wishes from here BBM, get better real soon!

I’m really going to make the most of the next two or three weeks. We’ve been instructed to not train at all over the break to give our bodies a chance to heal and get ready for the big push after New Years, which I intend to honour as best I can. The beach training and swim on the 27th doesn’t really count, and I may go out for a couple of short runs, we’ll see. Either way, I hope time does a good job of slowing down for the next three weeks or so and gives me a chance to absorb some of the atmosphere and cheer, and sets me up full of enthusiasm and vigour for 2008.

I’ve just read back through this post and I’m not really happy with it, but it’s taken me a while to write so I’m not going to ditch it now, and besides, this thing needs updates!
