The time just Flu by! (I wish)

Ugh, the worst week in recent memory comes to an end today with me getting back to work. Let me bring you up to speed.

Last Saturday we went to buy some carpet and I was feeling a bit ‘coldy’, but thought nothing of it. By the end of the weekend me, my wife and my little boy had throat infections and tonsilitis. If that wasn’t bad enough (and a very sad little boy with a sore throat screaming most of the night is pretty bad), we then managed to develop flu, just to top it off.

I’m not talking man flu, or a bad cold, but proper flu. I honestly can’t remember being as ill for at least the last ten years or so. All three of us came down with it, and what made it worse is the fact that when you’ve got a baby there’s no way you can do what you need to, and that’s to bunker down in bed and sleep until it’s over. The lack of sleep and rest just exascerbated it and we were ill for 9 or 10 days.

I’m back at work today with what feels like a bad cold and being very tired, but it feels positively brilliant compared to last week. RAR still has a really rattly cough, but his fever’s gone now and he’s still got anti-biotics, and judging by the amount of milk he’s drinking, his appetite is back too 🙂

Being that ill is just horrible, and having a four-month-old in that much pain and discomfort is absolutely heartbreaking. There are times you find yourself sat on the bed measuring up a syringe of Calpol, warming a bottle of milk and feeling like crap, wondering ‘will this ever end?’. It does though, it just takes time and a LOT of patience.

All in all, a hideous week full of illness, stress, worry and exhaustion, and one I don’t want to go through again for a very, very long time.
