It Hurts :(

What hurts? Just about everything now you ask. Last night’s class had the gift of ingenious new methods of torture bestowed upon it, and boy am I suffering for it today. I understand it’s called Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS), and I’m no stranger to Mr DOMS, but there wasn’t much in the way of a delay this time. My shoulders, chest and arms are all begging me to go back to bed and stop moving them thanks to the evil wonderful new pushups we were introduced to last night, but as anyone who trains hard and has felt the ache before knows, it’s a good pain.

What isn’t so good though is the agonising pain shooting through my right shoulder if I even so much as think about moving it. I had a bit of a dodgy landing during some takedown work last night, and it hurt a little at the time but I didn’t think any more of it. By the time I’d driven home and had ten minutes to sit down with the pup and relax, it had really started aching, and all night I was waking up in pain if I tried to roll of get comfortable. It’s a little easier this morning now that it’s warm and moving (and my friend ibuprofen is helping too), but I can’t see it getting back to anything like 100% for a little while yet.

This is especially annoying as I’ve just bought a new rattan Bo staff which I was really looking forward to spinning and whipping around the Dojang on Friday, so I’m hoping for some miraculous recovery powers between now and then.
