The title is a quote from one of my favourite series, Spaced, when Daisy is under the influence. It makes me laugh and is quite apt for how things have been around here lately. Ups and Downs.
Downs. I’ve had a lot of things crop up lately, some small, some not so small, but their combined effect has dragged me down a bit. The biggest part is knowing that I’ve only got about 8 weeks left in my job, it’s begun to loom large and the prospect of being unemployed is not one I like to think about. We’ve got lots of plans for the coming year, and in the event that I’m not earning it puts a huge hurdle in the way of most of them. I’m staying positive for the moment, and applying for other things, but the worry is starting to sneak up now and I think is responsible for the decidedly ropey quality of sleep I’ve been getting lately. Being tired like that doesn’t help me and has been having some knock-on effects in things which are pretty important to me, most notably my training. It’s a long story which I won’t go into now, but I’m very lucky to be training where I am though, and I realise just how much now after the support I’ve been offered.
Moving swiftly on from the Downs though, I got a little Up this morning. My writing output (blog notwithstanding) has been poor over the last year. I’ve been lucky to have a chance to write over at the BBMReview, which has spurred me on a bit and encouraged me to get my backside in gear once more and start doing what I really enjoy, games reviewing. So I’m pleased to be able to say that as of this morning, my review of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games is live!
It’s not the best thing I’ve ever written, but I’m pleased with it nonetheless. I’m also pleased because a couple of days ago I was rummaging through boxes and came across an album I was in love with during my formative years; Dinosaur Jr – Without A Sound. It’s not the most upbeat album you’ll ever have listened to, but I love the music and J Mascis has an inimitable voice. Do yourself a favour and take the few minutes it takes to listen to this.
