Today Was A Good Day

A certain Mister Ice Cube sang that line, and I felt it very apt – except really I should have posted this yesterday. So he’ll just have to record a new version called ‘Yesterday Was A Good Day’.

It started off pretty horribly, getting up after a poor nights sleep and having to go into work after four days off, but things soon picked up from there. I was doing my daily job search (only four more full days at work left for me now) and found an ideal looking position at the local University, so I did that instead of any actual work for the morning, and then dropped it in by hand. I won’t go into the trip to get there, let’s just say that thanks to a tree that had blown over and my complete lack of knowledge of the town a 45 minute round trip took 90. I’m really hopeful about this one, and there’s two positions open. Fingers crossed friends.

In the evening it was my first proper lesson since the grading. I’ve been in a bit of pain since Sunday and didn’t really know what to expect. Sometimes the first lesson back after a grading is a bit of a departure, something a bit different to usual, so I was half-expecting something along those lines. I should’ve thought harder though, and used my memory – we’d already had that unusual lesson, straight after the grading! Instead we were treated to things such as a strength-based warm-up with a set of dumbbells each, kicking drills (machine gun kicking at head height – not much fun when you’re 6’3″) and some high speed sparring drills. Best of all though was getting the chance to start learning one of the new forms I’ll need, pyung ahn oh dan. It’s really different and really enjoyable so far, I can’t wait to learn the full sequence so I can can start to tidy it up and give it some shape. That probably sounds a tiny bit pompous, but I know what I mean 😛

There were various other little things which made yesterday particularly good, not the sort of things that are easily explained, but that doesn’t stop them bringing a big, big smile to my face.

Two things to leave you with, firstly what is probably one of the funniest things I’ve seen online – Terminator 2 – Low Budgement Day, and secondly an album which I’ve been listening to again a lot. It really is just about my favourite, here’s a track from it.

Deltron 3030 – Madness
