Typhoid Mary

That’s how I got referred to at work; charming! On Friday I started to feel like I was coming down with a cold, so I dosed myself up on the obligatory lemsips and got on with it. Training in the evening was a very different matter. I couldn’t concentrate, was exhausted at the simplest things and by the end of the first hour I was shaking and shivering. I cut my losses there and headed home, and it’s a good job I did. Most of the next 14 hours or so was spent in bed, feeling like death warmed up, but unable to sleep properly and that’s pretty much how I’ve been ever since. I’m starting to feel a little better today as the day’s going on, and stupidly went back to work yesterday morning. That didn’t last too long, shortly after lunchtime I got sent home after being accused of being the afore-mentioned Typhoid Mary. For what was supposed to be a simple cold I can’t believe how ill I’ve been and how drained I am. I feel like I could do with a week lying in the sun recovering, but then again how many people think the same at this time of year?

My carving tools have arrived and my first two pumpkins are sat in the porch staying cool and dry, until I’m ready to hack them up in an attempt to make something a bit prettier. I’ve entered a contest at work so I’m quite determined to make a good go of it, especially after not having made a decent one for the last couple of years.

Training is a mixed bag at the moment, some sessions I come away from really buzzed and having felt it went great, but more than once I’ve felt quite dejected afterwards. I’m not entirely sure why, but sometimes it feels like I’m making no real progression any more, and if anything am slipping behind. I don’t know why, I’ve always trained as hard as I can (injuries permitting), it’s quite frustrating. It’s probably just a blip or something, maybe with all the dark lately with the seasons changing.

Enough of that, hopefully I’ll be back in the land of the living tomorrow and back to work and training, missing even one session seems like too many these days. Whatever I end up doing, I hope the day starts better than today. By way of a bit of back-story, yesterday Murph decided he was going to drink as much as possible and refuse to go outside (yeah, you can see where this is going). He got a little ‘excited’ in the evening and was giving one of his toys some good loving when he decided to pee all over the sofa. I guess he just lost control and was too full, but either way he was banished outside with the cat flap shut while it was cleaned up and he looked suitably sorry enough. It’s one of those cat flaps that can be set to 2-way, no movement, or 1-way in either direction. When he came in we’d evidently set it to one-way, as this morning we were greeted with little piles of dog mess everywhere! Quite where it all came from I have no idea, I swear there was more than would fit in him. Just when I thought I’d found it all I went to put on my robe and found a veritable dog mars bar in my clothes…. nice. Oh well, it’s only once in over a year and it was really our fault for shutting him in, but still, no fun.

For your musical delectation (and just because I’m home for once and can post from youtube), here are two less than usual songs from me. Oh, and comments now work again.

I love this first track, she has a great voice.

Suzanne Vega – Luka

This is one of my favourite songs ever, I can never hear it too often.

Tracy Chapman – Fast Car
