I’m Sorry Peter Crouch

Last week I was having a typical office chat about the upcoming World Cup qualifiers. Given our supreme managerial skills and lifetimes spent in professional football, we were setting the England squad to rights and made our way up the field to the forwards. I was reading how England were in real trouble before the Wednesday night match because so many strikers were out with injury, including Peter Crouch – who must be sick of being described as GAGTFABM (got a good touch for a big man). I was appalled at the fact he was going to possibly be unfit to play because of the heinous injury of a dead leg. A dead leg!! I’ve had a dead leg before, it hurts but it doesn’t stop you doing things. What a big wimp!

Or so I thought.

Last night we had more fight squad training and did a few rounds of full-contact, and in one of my fights I went in for a kick at the same time as the guy I was fighting and got the most almighty dead leg I’ve ever had. His knee flew into the side of my thigh and it dropped me with the pain. I’m not joking here, it’s probably the most painful hit I’ve ever taken. After much rolling about and moaning I hauled myself up and finished the fight, then sat down for a quick rest. I got up to take my next fight and I couldn’t put any weight on that leg without a lot of pain. The long and short of it is that I’m still in a lot of pain, still can’t put much weight on it and I’m limping around everywhere.  I’m supposed to be going to dog agility this evening and going to the gym tomorrow night, but unless this clears up pretty damn quickly I’m not going to be doing very much at all. So to you, Peter Crouch, I apologise.

The squad training and gym tie in rather nicely as it happens, as we learned on Friday that there’s another competition coming up in a scant five weeks time. I don’t know what divisions I’ll enter yet, probably just point-stop and continuous again, but I’m going to try to go one better than last time and do better than a second and a third place. We had a good haul as a club last time at the event, I’m sure we can do better this time with the hours we’ve put in on the mats.

In other news, I have a new phone. I’m very pleased with it so far, it’s small, sturdy and fast – everything the N73 wasn’t in other words. No more waiting for S60 apps to open like they were moving through cold treacle. I’ve already got the Gmail app and Twibble for Twitter installed and they open and update so much faster it’s untrue. It’s a Sony Ericsson C902 should you care.

Oh and if someone wouldn’t mind making the rain go away for the holiday weekend, that’d be great, thanks.

Don’t you think Sony Ericsson C902’s screen is disappointing?
