Plus One

Just a short post here to update on the latest member of our family; Ella.

Ella the King Charles Cavalier spaniel

We’ve been half-heartedly looking for a companion for Murph for ages, but never really doing too much about it, when my Dog Agility instructor sent me a link for a dog at a rescue charity. I had a look and sent a cursory application to the charity, and lo and behold, a few days later I had a phone call telling me we were successful!

There were some conditions, namely that Murph had to get ‘done’ (he’s in the vet’s at the time of writing, recuperating. Everything went well), and that we had to drive to Wales to go and get her. It might sound a bit dramatic, but I had no hesitation. We drove up on Saturday morning, with Murph in the back of the car looking thoroughly un-impressed and headed up to Bridgend to meet the foster family. They were such nice people, with eight(!) dogs there in total, some their own, some fostering and some being dog-sat. After an hour of Murph getting to know her, and leaving a tearful foster-mum behind we set off back home.

Very tired after her long car journey

Murph was an absolute nightmare when we got her home for the first day or so and would not leave her alone, constantly licking her, panting, squeaking and trying to hump her… classy that, Murph. Since then though he’s calmed down a lot, and is now as good as gold with her. She’s had a really hard life so far in her four years, being rescued from a puppy farm where she had god-knows-how-many litters and multiple cesareans, so we’re going to make her as happy and comfortable as possible now with her new family. Just thinking about what she’s been through makes me angry and very sad at the same time, so I’m trying not to concentrate on it.

Welcome home Ella.
